Two companies have been fined £130,000 after a worker was killed by a concrete beam, reports constructionenquirer.com. Gary Drinkald, a 43-year-old construction worker, was working on a night demolition job when he was crushed by the 31-tonne beam.


£1.35 million compensation for car crash
A 20-year-old woman has been awarded £1.35 million in road traffic accident compensation claim, after surviving a near-fatal crash almost four years ago. Sophie Wilkinson, from Bishops Waltham in Hampshire, was awarded the damages by the High Court as an interim payment, The Portsmouth News reported.


Police sergeant awarded £370,000 after motorbike crash
A policeman who was so badly injured in a motorbike crash that he had to retire from service, has been awarded £370,000 compensation claim, Harrogate News writes. Steve Ball from Harrogate, formerly a sergeant with North Yorkshire Police, was on motorbike duty, returning from a call out in July 2006 when the accident happened on Otley Road.
